Rodman coins at the Renwick Gallery

Updated: Dec 18, 2018

We are thrilled to report Rodman now has some of his art in the Smithsonian!

The Renwick Gallery has a show entitled No Spectators: The Art of Burning Man. It is there until January 21, 2019. It's a spectacular looking exibition! We were unable to go to the opening party, but hope to visit the show later this summer.

Thanks to the beautiful Lady Bee for including his glass coin jewelry in her book, The Jewelry of Burning Man, which she did along with Karen Christians & photographer George Post.

Rodman & Lady Bee, happy on the playa.

Every year, Rodman designs a coin to gift at Burning Man. He calls them burning manners. We leave them at art installations, balance them on waiting bicycle seats, & gift them to random people. Burning Man is such a funny, serendipitous place. The last time we went I think the cap was 60,000. We'd have a conversation with someone, then give them a coin. Far more often than you'd ever imagine, someone would say, "Oh, I have one of these from another year!" How can that be? There are literally tens of thousands of people out here, all without cell phones, & covered in dust. We have traded these for ice, coffee, camp sites, & in one juicy moment of bartering triumph, a pass thru Crater Lake National Park.
